Gymnasio Bonaparte, 1854. Type species: Strix nudipes Daudin, 1800, by monotypy.

Synonymy

* Gymnoglaux Cabanis, 1855. Type species [MISIDENTIFIED, see ICZN article 70.3 [1] ]: Strix nudipes Daudin, 1800, by monotypy.

NOTE: Olson & Suárez (2008: 67) incorrectly state 'that Cabanis was looking at specimens of the Cuban species when he proposed the genus Gymnoglaux is irrelevant, because the type of a genus is a specific epithet, not a specimen'. The fact that the type species was misidentified is relevant (see above).
