Syntypes (2): BMNH 1946.1.2.62 (formerly BMNH 1862.11.1.255) and BMNH 1863.9.29.5, both ♂.
Type locality: “Siam [= Thailand]”.

Holotype: CAS 15016, adult ♂, collected by J.C. Thompson on 20 December 1906.
Type locality: “One mile N. E. of Cavite, Manila Bay, Philippine Islands”.

The black-headed sea snake (Hydrophis atriceps) is a marine snake native to waters around Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and northern Australia, and New Guinea.[2]
