Herman Boerhaave publishes Institutiones medicae, one of the earliest textbooks on physiology.


Calcareous hard-paste Dresden or Meissen porcelain is produced in Saxony by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and developed after his death (October) by Johann Friedrich Bottger.
